After having viewed this video (God As We Understand Him), with participants in our outpatient community recovery program, I am tickled to say it is a enormous step in breaking the chains of prior rumor, suspicion and misinformation regarding Alcoholics Anonymous and how it works. Thanx for giving us a wide angle lense that can ease a newbie into taking the risk of walking in the doors of a meeting or coming support for a second peek after a brief but possibly negative “study seek.” I recommend this video for drug/alcohol recovery programs, alcoholics, and their families, or anyone who might want to know more about A.A. but may be shocked of attending in person….yet.
Sincerely

“The Galaxy Railways” (2003) is a Japanese though-provoking TV series created and designed by pioneer manga artist Leiji Matsumoto and serves as a 21st Century engage on Matsumoto’s renowned series from 1978, “Galaxy Yelp 999.” It doesn’t have the same characters or state as the earlier series, but it revolves around the same premise of an interplanetary railroad grunt that flies from planet to planet throughout the galaxy. Here the main character is Manabu Yuuki, who has joined the SDF (Set Defense Force), the security arm of the Galaxy Railways Corporation, following in the footsteps of his slow father and older brother.

In this volume, we watch Manabu as a boy in the first episode who stows away on his father’s state, and, in the second episode, joins the SDF as a young man of 20 and experiences a “time fling” which sends him five years into the past to encounter his brother during a crucial battle with area pirates. The third episode is a standard deranged-passenger-takes-hostages-on-a-train crime show; the fourth is a rather jarring ghost chronicle that introduces unwieldy supernatural elements into an otherwise straight sci-fi series; and the fifth and most suspenseful in the volume details the hijacking by status pirates of the Railway’s chief troubleshooting announce, “the Colossal One,” and Manabu’s efforts to retrieve it despite the Railway’s orders to have it destroyed.
The older series, “Galaxy Voice 999,” had more of a fable-like quality, with animation that resembled storybook illustrations and characters that seemed to advance out of some future folk myth universe designed as an allegory about holding on to one’s humanity in the face of technological advances. The main character, a young boy named Tetsuro, was on a quest to accept a free machine body so he could live forever and avoid the violent, tragic death he’d seen his mother die. In the course of his trek, he encounters numerous people suffering the consequences of having given up their humanity to become “machine people.”

In the modern series, Manabu is essentially a corporate employee, as are all those around him. He basically has to be a sterling soldier. Conflict is introduced when he shows initiative and defies orders in order to set lives or prevent destruction of Galaxy Railway property. He’s on a par with the junior salaryman who tries to bring recent methods to the job not brilliant whether he’ll be punished or rewarded. As a result, at least on the basis of these first five episodes, the series is not nearly as compelling as most of Matsumoto’s earlier work, which dealt with the romance of the individual, the loner who follows his cosmic destiny.
As intricate as the current digital animation is and as impressive as the updated designs are, I aloof pick the cruder artwork of the fresh GE999 series. There was titanic beauty in it, all achieved via hand-drawings, and a sense of a magical, mystical universe out there filled with imaginatively designed creatures and uncommon, unpredictable characters laden with emotion and tragedy. The callow and generic young bureaucrats of the Galaxy Railway Corporation are far less sharp.
In the future mankind will venture to the far reaches of the cosmos using technologically advanced trains, prehaps the least likely contrivance of intergalactic go. The quick of the Galaxy Railrays transports countless galactic citizens from one exotic planet to the next, protected by the SDF, elite force protecting the Railrays Hasty against terrorist, meteor storms, and malicious alien life.

I am a tremendous fan of Leone’s work, especially his Westerns. The Valid, the Terrible and the Unsightly is a wonderful entry in his oeuvre (though I unsuitable Once Upon A Time in the West and For A Few Dollars More unbiased above it) . It is plump of his mammoth style, it’s very tantalizing, and it features one of the best adversarial trios ever establish to film in Blondie, Tuco, and Angel Eyes.

So it is with sadness that I have to rate this Blu-Ray 3 stars (and it’s closer to 2.5) . I’ve bought this movie three times now, not counting this Blu-Ray: on VHS, the first single disc DVD, and the SE that came out a few years ago. It should be distinct that I like this movie. When the Blu-Ray was announced, I was delighted. High definition Leone? Ticket me up! I pre-ordered it along with the recent T2 disc. Then I started reading early reviews that said the describe quality wasn’t up to snuff. I was disheartened, and decided to abolish my order until I could check out the disc for myself.
I rented it from Netflix, and have unfortunately found my fears confirmed. While it certainly looks better than the SE DVD, it is not the best this movie can contemplate. The over-zealous Digital Noise Reduction that has been applied completely robs many scenes of the lovely detail we might otherwise have seen in 1080p. I keep the venerable SE DVD in my Xbox and flipped befriend and forth between the Blu-Ray and DVD on a single scene (Blondie stands alone against some hills in the background in the final scene) . While the Blu-Ray looked “cleaner” (that is, the digital artifacting visible on the DVD was gone), there was actually no further detail to be seen on the Blu-Ray! It was as if you took the DVD image and smeared it until the noise was gone, then bumped it up to 1080. I looked specifically at Blondie’s eyes to observe if any more detail was visible on the Blu-Ray, but there wasn’t. The bushes on the hill in the background, too, looked like sharpened up-scaled blobs rather than bushes captured on film by a camera.

So, the relate quality isn’t as fine, but how about the rest? Well, it’s mostly expansive! The extras, carried over from the SE, are all detached bewitching, and the fresh commentaries (which I haven’t listened to yet) are very welcome and appreciated. The unusual menus are also nice. But I do have one more negative point: the sound.
If you eye the special feature on restoring the movie, the producer notes that in order to develop a 5.1 audio track, he had to add sound effects. While I’m positive some enjoy having a 5.1 track, the sound effects (specifically the gun-shots) sound contrivance off from the unique current and integral Leone effects. They consume the loyal same stock gun-shot that you’ve heard on TV cop shows and it really detracts from the movie if you’ve seen the fresh as many times as I have. The Blu-Ray includes many audio options, but unfortunately, an new mono track is not among them. It did have an English 2.0 mono, but it’s aloof the remastered sound with the lame gun-shot effects, oddly. To hear the incompatibility, buy a scene (like Tuco in the bath), and switch support and forth between the English 5.1 or 2.0 and the Italian 2.0. It’s very distinct and really bugs me. So if I want to hear the current sound effects, I have to contemplate it in Italian? Arrive on, MGM/Fox, how hard would it have been to include the Unusual 2.0 Mono track?
So, in conclusion, you have a sizable movie on Blu-Ray with lackluster represent and no modern English soundtrack, but a plethora of large extras, all on a single disc. Worth it? Not for me, but it may be for you. I’m holding out hope that one day MGM/Fox will score a satisfactory transfer that isn’t overly digitally tampered with (Leone should have some GRAIN, man! Check out the Italian BR releases!), and includes the fresh mono sound in English. Until then, I’m going to have to assume the used 1-disc DVD release veteran to indulge in this large movie.
Don’t miss Christopher Frayling’s terrific commentary which is packed with production information and incisive observations. Particularly touching is the plan Frayling takes up for Leone’s decision to humanize Tuco, pointing out that this movie, far from a straight shoot-em-up, shows Leone coming of age. (This share of the commentary is during the ample scene where Tuco meets his brother.) Frayling makes a few errors that are a bit surprising… Eastwood says “clear” rather than “pshaw” in a key exchange that Frayling gets substandard, and Frayling claims that Lee Van Cleef does not have fragment of his finger missing, a point definitively refuted by scenes in FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE… but his worship for this movie comes through resoundingly. This is one of the best commentaries I’ve heard. And the transfer, despite whatever DNR was applied, looks very detailed, film-like, and graceful. Hold it from somebody who has seen the movie over a hundred times… this Blu-ray is worth getting!

I judge this movie a breakthrough. It is the first I’ve seen that equals – or passes – genuine live-action movies for subtle development and interaction of characters.
It took the first 30-45 minutes to gather going, but that time was customary to attach the characters and the setting. Be patient – it’s worth the wait. After that, the movie is really about families. I don’t mean the “Leave it to Beaver” kind, with Mom, Dad, and their children by each other. I mean the valid families these days, where the ideas of Mom and Dad need to flex and where the children are unrelated to one or both. I mean a steady family with right problems, holding together because everyone is struggling to have it together.
The animation is wonderful and the character animation are very reliable, but excellence is the norm these days. The location and yarn are what gain this movie stand out. As an aside, I was eager to hear a few English words adopted into the Japanese idiom, “homeless” and “godfather” being the most positive. I was also keen to peek that the Spanish speech wasn’t subtitled – English speakers will need to puzzle it through, same as the Japanese listeners did.

This isn’t an “adult” movie, but there’s not a lot here for kids. That’s splendid. Kids have their acquire movies, and we need ours.
With such films as “Perfect Blue,” “Millennium Actress” and now “Tokyo Godfathers, ” Kon Satoshi has posthaste ascended to the ranks of the masters of animation in Japan, side by side with such dignitaries as Miyazaki Hayao, Takahata Isao, Otomo Katsuhiro and Oshii Mamoru.

Like his other films, “Tokyo Godfathers” takes status in current Japan and portion of the joy of the film is seeing the wonderland of Tokyo approach alive in brilliant enchanting splendor. To effect this particular stare, Kon filmed live scenes of Tokyo, then curious overtop of the backgrounds, to give his characters a completely realistic environment in which to live their fantasy. The overall enact is really unbelievable.
The characters are three homeless people, each with a hidden background of severe wound that buries their proverbial hearts of gold. They effect a curious, nomadic family, with Gin, a decade-long conventional of the Tokyo streets with a murky and mysterious past, Hana, a slightly pathetic aging streak queen who wants to play the role of mother to the strange clan, and Miyuki, a hard, aggressive teenager who isn’t quite positive about the decisions that lead her to this life. Add to that Kiyoko, a foundling baby abandoned in a sack of garbage and discovered on Christmas eve, and the family is complete.

As with “Millennium Actress,” Kon effectively weaves together several stories into an complete describe, each thread joining together briefly as it touches the lives of one of the three characters, then separating as they fragment. However, in the world of “Tokyo Godfathers” there are almost no strangers, and each person met along the path contributes something to the Christmas miracle of Kiyoko.
“Tokyo Godfathers” is very touching and sentimental, as a first-rate Christmas movie should be. But it is the sentiment and care for won through hardships and hurt, and the film does not lack for an edge. And then there are miracles, and wonder.
A really satisfactory movie altogether. It would be a shame if more people didn’t net the chance to observe it.

I honest saw this film today (after missing out on a sold out sneak preview last weekend) and the increased level of expectation was met with one of the most rewarding moviegoing experiences I’ve had in the last five years. Monster House gives us one doozy of a spooky antagonist, a decrepit domicile of living malice that gobbles errant toys and passerby with equal ingenuity and viciousness.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Monster House! Click Here
The house is dull traditional MEAN, and for really dinky children perhaps a shrimp too scary to prefer in a expansive room filled with strangers and darkness. But for those of us who are too grown up for a nighlight this is perfect, creepy entertainment.
The same motion engage technology frail to effect The Polar Bid (a film which I have aloof yet to peep) is a very entertaining and appropriate choice for this film, where the only truly unbelievable element is the demented house that will not suffer trespassers. It works so well because the eerie realism that depicts the characters is so starkly contrasted with the insanity that ultimately drives the Monster House to be, well, so terrifying.

Now I fully expected to be entertained by the antics of the house, but I didn’t demand there to be considerable of a yarn. Again I was pleasantly surprised by what I deem is a script that I possess is fair as good of an Oscar nomination as the script for The Incredibles was. There is, beneath the floorboards of this film, more heart than fright. A chronicle of appreciate, retribution, acceptance, forgiveness, and ultimately letting go.
Monster House is, beyond a doubt, one of the coolest Alarm movies for kids ever made. A Halloween tradition in the making that dares to respond that age faded question: Can a house be paralyzed?
The acknowledge is a resounding yes with a disquieting post script.
Whatever is frightened may also be hungry!
Monster House uses the same motion-capture technology as Zemeckis’ Polar Lisp but takes it to the next level. This time around, the whole context of the movie will appeal to a wider audience so this is a stout opportunity to indicate the possibilities that this all digital technology offers.
Beyond the technical achievement, Monsterhouse is an edifying surprise for its family-oriented audience. Unlike Dreamworks and their Shrek-ish, below-the-belt, cynically adult-oriented features, this movie aims at both the kids and grown-ups in a map that tends to unite them around its subject, rather than addressing the two categories separately and alternatively.
To kids, this will be their first experience of an valid alarm flick: the house IS seriously timorous and this is definitly no Casper-like curse. Lives are at stake here and the line between salubrious and atrocious is not so strictly defined.
Some aspects of the place have a very macabre touch, unexcited a bittersweet feeling comes in balance towards the kill.
A actual implication is required from the kids, especially because a few thrills awaits them once the house has awaken.
On the parents’ side, besides the fact that for those like me who grew up with the Amblin productions of the eighties (The Goonies, The Gremlins and co), you are in for a immense back-to-the-future nostalgic hasten. Not only because the action takes region in the 80’s (various hints lead to fill it) but because the whole atmosphere, the characters, the humour will either perform you wish you could unexcited be 5 to 10 years used to fully dive into this nightmarish myth, or simply will do you forget you’ve grown older and acquire you actually feel like you’re a kid again.
So thank you Mr Zemeckis and Mr Spielberg for producing this slight gem, which, though it draws its inspiration from a classic tradition of troubled mansion archetypes, never fails to glean its believe identity and energy.
In a nutshell: enormous style and screenplay, technically impressive and very concerned about offering a satisfying present to the audience.

SEVEN MEN FROM NOW is a mighty Randolph Scott Western, and this announced release is equally remarkable—for a number of reasons. Randy Scott, by the mid-1950s, had ravishing much—at least so the critics thought—reached the ruin of what was a qualified career in acting (mostly in action dramas and largely, since 1946, in “spruce B” Westerns) . This Batjac production, directed superbly by Budd Boetticher (Andrew McLaglen was the producer), signaled an unbelievable “Indian summer” for Scott, the high point in his career. Over the next 5 or 6 years, from 1956 until his final, Sam Peckinpah-directed classic Flow THE HIGH COUNTRY (co-starring with Joel McCrea), Scott would star in a series of absolutely righteous shrimp Westerns that would demonstrate the critics nasty, and firmly effect Randolph Scott as one of the finest Western actors of all time.

SEVEN MEN FROM NOW has never been released on commercial video; a few “private” releases have circulated, but never in really respectable narrate quality and never widely available. This announced release, then, is of gigantic importance well beyond the Western genre: it will offer not honest Western movie fans and Scott fans a estimable opportunity to actually “search for” the movie as it was released, but it will enable all moviegoers a chance to eye, in the comfort of their bear homes, a true classic in moviemaking for the first time in almost forty years.
Within this past year Scott’s earlier vehicle, ALBUQUERQUE, was released on DVD. It was understanding by many, including some film historians, that that film had been lost. Instead, it turned up on a lovely DVD relate, in its current (and good-looking) Cinecolor release. Now SEVEN MEN FROM NOW will be appearing, and there is additional reason for joy.

There should be no hesitation by anyone: SEVEN MEN FROM NOW is a classic, and should be in everyone’s collection.
I’ve read about this film for years but had never seen it. Because it was tied up in the John Wayne estate and BATJAC holdings, it hadn’t made it to video (at least DVD) until now. Wayne was off doing oher things so it was never planned that he star in it, and reprotedly he suggested Scott for the section, but it’s also related that once he saw the finished product, he wished he had done it.
Well it’s here and the reputation is born out. A well drawn myth, with exciting characters, spacious scenery, friendly cast and generally a first class film all around. Scott is the ramrod straight hero who is out to upright a unfriendly and Lee Marvin is the intersting, semi likeable, significant villan. Gail Russel is the female lead who along with her veil husband are befriended by Scott on the whisk. The spare script and righteous though not extravegant production values add to the tone and feel of the film. The special features exhibit it’s been restored, and I don’t know from that, but the represent and colors are first rate. It’s presented in widescreen format and I don’t deem it was orginally shot that diagram, but it comes across sizable in that aspect. Hard to imagine it looking any better on the colossal hide. This is the first of the Scott-Boetticher collaborations and it’s time to bring The Grand T, Chase Lonesome and Comanche Region to DVD. These are all classic westerns and worth the inconvenience to bring them to the genre starved market today. Interstingly, the villians in these particular films are actually more fully drawn than the hero who’s a bit on the stoic side. Richard Boone had that role in The Large T, Pernell Roberts in Travel Lonesome, and Claude Akins in Comanche Place. A formula of a type, I’m clear, but well done as you obtain a small sympathy, or at least tolerance, for the abominable guy.
Highly recommend!

I am not a cult fan of this kind of movie. Not erotic, not anaimated, not grand. Quick-witted, college educated woment who like erotic will not like this. Don’t do it.
If you are looking for something appealing, accelerate away from this. Poorly shot, poorly edited, poorly acted and objective dull hard to examine. Clear this type of film is for turning your brain off, but the film itself is such a turn off the only thing to do is turn it off.
